Dr. Benjamin Larimer


Dr. Benjamin Larimer – Ben is a Co-Founder of P3 Diagnostics LLC and serves on its Board of Managers as Chief Science Officer.  He currently holds positions as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology and as an Associate Scientist in the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, both at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Ben obtained his Ph.D. in 2014 at the University of Missouri in the lab of Dr. Susan Deutscher and trained as a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Umar Mahmood at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The Larimer Lab focuses on the development and utilization of clinically-translatable non- invasive imaging agents used to visualize tumor and immune cell biology. Ben’s contributions include the discovery of a first-in-class granzyme B PET tracer that is currently being investigated in first-in-human studies.  During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ben developed human antibody detection technology for which a provisional patent was issued by the United States Patent Office and is currently under commercial development. Ben is a 2018 recipient of the National Institutes of Health Pathway to Independence Award and a 2020 recipient of the NIH Directors’ New Innovator Award, in addition to a number of other awards.
